EENA was forwarded the following link by a group in favor of the school levy that will be voted on in a special election on March 13. We do not intend to take a position either way on this proposed levy but here is the link: http://www.yesforboiseschools.org. So far we have not received any information from those opposed but will gladly include a link to their site as well if there is one.
The new Dona Larsen Park will attract more traffic to the west end of Warm Springs. During sporting events neighborhood parking spaces may become overwhelmed, especially in the evenings and on weekends. The City of Boise has offered the neighborhood the option of designating specific streets as a Special Parking District. These Districts are created when residential neighborhoods are adversely impacted by non-resident vehicles parking on the street. Parking within the district may require a permit. Parking is limited to a set amount of time within the district boundaries. After reaching the time limit the vehicle must be moved completely outside of the district. Currently Boise has two Special Parking Districts. One includes 24 entire blocks surrounding Boise High School, and parking is limited to one hour. The other District encompasses 30 blocks near Boise State University where parking is also limited to one hour.
If the neighborhood decides to request that the City create a Parking District, it will take at least three months from the time the request is submitted to the City Council. Currently there is a suggestion to monitor traffic during the first season the Park is in use to determine if a District is warranted. If the East End neighborhood decides in favor of the District, the city will notify residents and there will be a public comment period. If you would like to comment now please contact a member of the East End Neighborhood Association Board.
The board has discussed the possible boundaries of such a district based on feedback and comments received from neighbors in the area most likely to be affected by events at Dona Larsen Park. We would encourage residents to review the draft map the board is considering and provide additional comments prior to a decision being made in February. There is a link to the map below. The issue will be on the agenda for the next regular EENA board meeting to be held Tuesday February 28 at 7pm at Adams Elementary. You can send your comments to contact@eastendboise.com or attend the meeting on the 28th.
